Job description
As a Senior Power Electronics Engineer at EGSTON Power Electronics GmbH, you will apply your deep technical expertise to the design, development, validation, optimization, and customization of cutting-edge power amplifiers for Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) systems. This is primarily an office-based position, with occasional trips to customers of up to 5% of your yearly working hours.
Your responsibilities
- Designing, developing, testing, optimizing and customizing power electronic converters for EGSTON’s existing and next generation PHIL systems.
- Evaluating advanced circuit designs for high-performance power electronic converters.
- Defining requirements and specifications for digital controllers (MCU, DSP, FPGA) to ensure robust implementation in power converter systems.
- Conducting circuit modeling and simulations (LTspice, PSIM, Simulink, or equivalent) to validate and optimize the converter designs.
- Actively participate in PCB layout design for power electronic converters, ensuring reliability, manufacturability, and safety compliance, with expertise in tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, or equivalent.
- Applying expertise in magnetic components design.
- Designing and implementing high-bandwidth digital controllers for prototype power converters and developing bare-metal software in C/C++ for embedded system prototypes.
- Ensuring compliance with Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and EMC regulations (CE marking process).
- Supporting system-level design, prototyping, and validation, including PHIL system integration.
- Providing technical guidance to junior engineers and sharing knowledge with peers.
Required qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or equivalent qualification.
- 7+ years of experience in power electronic converters design and development.
- Expertise in:
- Low-voltage (<1500 V dc), high-power (>25 kW) power electronic converters design.
- Analog and digital circuit design (measurement and signal conditioning circuits, hardware protection circuits).
- Simulation tools (Pspice, LTspice, PSIM, PLECS, Simulink).
- Expertise in development of power electronic converters, including:
- Multi-stage, ac/ac, ac/dc, dc/dc, dc/ac power electronic converters.
- SST-based power converters concepts.
- Expertise in using wide-bandgap devices (SiC MOSFETs, GaN HEMTs) in power electronic systems.
- Experience in PCB layout design for high-power power electronic converters, using professional EDA tools (Altium Designer is preferred).
- Experience in thermal management in high-power power electronic converters.
- Experience in magnetic components design, and related EMI/EMC considerations.
- Experience in high-bandwidth controller and power converter design for PHIL or real-time systems.
- Experience in bare-metal software development for embedded controllers.
- Experience in LVD and EMC compliance for power electronic converters.
- Experience in testing, validation, and certification of power converter systems.
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with real-time simulator platforms (e.g., Opal-RT, Typhoon HIL, RTDS).
- Expertise in digital control algorithms (PID control, predictive control, state machines).
- Proven ability to innovate and solve complex technical challenges.
- Familiarity with grid code compliance requirements.
- Experience in high-frequency PCB design (up to 10 GHz).

An annual gross salary of at least EUR 60,000 (full-time) is planned for this position. The actual amount of your remuneration will depend on your qualifications and your experience and will be agreed upon individually.
