Job Offer (M/F/D)

(SENIOR) POWER ELECTRONICS CONTROL ENGINEER (M/F/D)

Job description

As a (Senior) Power Electronics Control Engineer your main focus will be developing advanced control algorithms for power converters in EGSTON’s power amplifier systems. You will be responsible for designing, testing, and validating control solutions for AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC power conversion systems, collaborating closely with hardware, firmware, and deployment teams. Besides model-based control engineering, you will perform independent measurements in our lab for system identification and model validation, and to assess the developed control system performance.

Your responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Design and validate control algorithms for power electronics systems, ensuring high performance and efficiency across a range of energy and automotive products.
  • Develop specifications for firmware implementation of the control algorithms.
  • Model and simulate power converter dynamics to optimize control strategies using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and similar circuit simulation and modeling tools.
  • Physics-based system identification and model validation, model-based control design, and simulations of the closed-loop control system.
  • Perform hands-on testing, validation, and troubleshooting of control algorithms on hardware platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and help integrate control algorithms into firmware frameworks.
  • Support manufacturing by helping develop test platforms and providing technical support for product testing at both internal and external facilities.
  • Assist product deployment teams by tracking system controller performance, diagnosing behavioral issues, and providing firmware specification updates to enhance product features and reliability.

Required qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification (advanced degrees are preferred).
  • At least five years of experience as power electronics control engineer in the power industry.
  • Expertise in PID control, model-based control, model-based design, droop-control, filtering (Biquad, IIR…).
  • Solution-oriented mindset and ability to work in a highly dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

Required skills

  • Hands-on experience with lab test equipment: multimeters, regulated power supplies, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in power electronic converters (converter topologies, control systems basics, soldering, building test jigs, testing prototypes, and performing PCBA- and device-level reworks).
  • Meticulous organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in programming languages C and/or Python.

Preferred skills

  • Experience with Hardware in the loop systems and real-time simulators.
  • Knowledge of VHDL.
  • Knowledge of electric machines.
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems.

What we offer

  • A Forward-looking technology-oriented environment with excellent professional and personal development and training opportunities.
  • An international team of experienced and motivated coworkers and fast and effective internal communication channels.
  • A strong innovative spirit, cooperation with universities and research institutions as well as our customers’ R&D teams.
  • Flexible working hours (flextime) and opportunity to work from home.

An annual gross salary of at least EUR 60,000 (full-time) is planned for this position. The actual amount of your remuneration will depend on your qualifications and your experience and will be agreed upon individually.
